Music celebrates life
Monday will mark a debut and a finale for a good cause. And all are welcome.
For the first time, The Barbees and Madrid International Choir & Ensemble (MIC) will perform together, kicking off the summer season with a concert of both a cappella and accompanied music in the theatre of Colegio San Bautista de los Salesianos Estrecho at 20:00 on Monday, 24 June.
For the last time, Ángel Rodríguez Rivero will direct The Barbees, Madrid´s only women´s barbershop chorus. Ángel directed The Barbees to three national chorus championships during his 13-year tenure, which saw the chorus grow from 11 singers to the nearly 40 today. It is fitting that The Barbees say “hasta luego” to Ángel on stage, as making music together was how we got to know the tenor with the beautiful voice who sings with the Spanish National Chorus.
And with our ticket sales, The Barbees and MIC will make a donation to adELA, the Asociación Española de Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica. For years adELA gave essential help to the father of a Barbee, Ángel Villa de Miguel, who suffered from this rare and degenerative disease that is not supported by the national health service. adELA was founded in 1990 by a small group of friends, family members and caregivers of patients with ELA with the support of the celebrated scientist and Prince of Asturias prizewinner, Stephen Hawking.
The Barbees are grateful to MIC, Madrid´s English-speaking choir that truly lives up to its name as its members hail from 21 countries around the world, for proposing the opportunity to perform together, and for generously agreeing to support adELA with a donation.

El lunes será un debut y un final por una buena causa. Y todos sois bienvenidos.
Por primera vez, The Barbees y Madrid International Choir & Ensemble (MIC) actuarán juntos, dando el pistoletazo de salida a la temporada de verano con un concierto de música a cappella y acompañada en el teatro del Colegio San Bautista de los Salesianos Estrecho a las 20:00 horas del lunes 24 de junio.
Por última vez, Ángel Rodríguez Rivero dirigirá The Barbees, el único coro femenino de barbershop de Madrid. Ángel dirigió a The Barbees en tres campeonatos nacionales de coros durante su mandato de 13 años, en los que el coro pasó de 11 cantantes a las casi 40 actuales. Es muy apropiado que The Barbees digan "hasta luego" a Ángel en el escenario, ya que haciendo música juntos fue como conocimos al tenor de hermosa voz que canta con el Coro Nacional de España.
Y con la venta de entradas, The Barbees y MIC harán una donación a adELA, la Asociación Española de Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrofia. Durante años, adELA prestó una ayuda esencial al padre de un Barbee, Ángel Villa de Miguel, que padecía esta enfermedad rara y degenerativa que no cuenta con el apoyo del servicio nacional de salud. adELA fue fundada en 1990 por un pequeño grupo de amigos, familiares y cuidadores de pacientes con ELA con el apoyo del célebre científico y premio Príncipe de Asturias, Stephen Hawking.
